Welcome to the Vancouver Island and Gulf Islands (VIGI) District of the Pionairs. Our district currently has 653 members resident on these very beautiful islands. While we have members throughout the islands, the majority reside in the Greater Victoria area, Nanaimo, and the Comox Valley.
Staying in touch
We have two coffee groups that meet regularly in Saanichton and Courtenay. For more details about times and locations, select Coffee Groups on the left side of this web page.
We generally hold luncheon events in the spring and/or summer as well as an annual Christmas luncheon in Victoria and Courtenay. Announcements for these events are sent by email to all members with email addresses and posted under Meetings & Events on the left side of this web page. Check out the photos posted in the Photo Gallery section – you might see someone you know!
We issue newsletters at least twice each year. Our newsletters contain news and updates on the District and National Pionairs events, pass travel info and other membership news. Newsletters are sent by email to all members with email addresses and once each year by Canada Post to members who do not have a valid email address in their Pionairs Profile (to update your personal profile, click on the red Edit Profile box at the top of this page). Our newsletters are also posted on this web page, in the Newsletter section.
Whether you’re a resident or passing through on vacation, all Pionairs members are welcome to attend our coffee group and other social events. It’s a great way to stay in touch, connect with former colleagues and meet new people.
Giving back locally
Most of our events include 50/50 draws with proceeds going to a local charity and/or a food item collection for the local foodbank. In 2021, the District donated more than $4000 to nine different hospital foundations on the islands.
Please join us
If you have some spare time and want to help or be more involved, please consider volunteering with the District – we can always use an extra hand!
If you have friends or colleagues from any of the constituent airlines that now form Air Canada who are not members of the Pionairs, please encourage them to join. We are always looking for new members to join us and bring new ideas and suggestions to the table.
